Refresh and try again. I mostly just wanted to write about that Crepax layout though. The first and second panel are amaaaazing. Zeke Viegas rated it really liked it Jun 01, I love that kind of thing. Just through how he is placing his panels he is creating depth and dimension and time for his characters to move through. I mean it should exist even more in western comics, given how compressed the action in our comics is.

Rob Liefeld X-force comics are the realest thing. One of the most effective things Liefeld does, and he does it a lot in these early X-Force issues is this sort of power vertical panel on the left side of the page, and then smaller vertical panels sort of falling up or down in parrallel.

I find ceepax when I read Valentina, that is my criticism of it—that in some ways, she participates in adventures—that I am not really that certain matter—but because of the rigidity of that world, there is a linearity that in parts of Valentina she has to adhere to. Vrepax is a two page spread that you have to turn the book sideways to actually read, and Stryfe is actually perching his foot on one of the panels from which he is speaking.

Somebloke added it Dec 05, These are some more pages from Hello Anita—I picked them for a more broad point about Crepax which is that his pages and rhythms tend to work along these two types of axis of which this is one. Return to Book Page. The composition is actually very much an exclamation mark in shape. The other great thing on this page is the two heads in the middle of the page, and how they bubble up and mesh with the third panel right above them—you sort of ooze down the hair to the one head—and then back to the left.

And again, notice the use of the vertical panels crepsx. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. He likes to represent erotic scenes without identifying with those he portrays. What is interesting to me about this kind of composition is that I think it forces you as a reader to step back from the panels and see the page as a whole first. She has no profession; she could perhaps, be a student. And then sometimes I just jack my page compositions from Basquiat paintings because I think the way those use space and words are super useful in terms of keeping myself from getting to micro on a page—he forces me to look at the page as a whole, as a singular entity.

Without ever intending it, it eventually became a big book. I also dig how the bottom of the second panel is drawn but not the top.

You need the few moments you dedicate to action in these comics to hit hard. Karl Hickey rated it it was ok Jan 09, Not that I am. Bekir added it Feb 18, They need to bang. This page is fantastic.

Hello, Anita!

This distance is how he is different from someone like Manara. I feel that Crepax, particularly in Bianca creates rhythms that are important in this direction. Alexandre Loth added it Jan 21, I am interested in the steps toward creating the sublime. And that hard square line holding in a set pattern that the characters pose over is a whole other kind of dynamic comic making shit that I will get into in the next part of this series.

Crepax, Valentina Time stutters, stops, starts again, rewinds, zooms in—beautiful to watch.

I mean this kind of image is just beautiful. Want to Read Currently Reading Read.

The Anita Live series is one of my favorites. I have no desire to serve as a model. Thou Grett marked it as to-read Jan 31, That was the premise of this I think. And a lot of fun. Compared to Valentina, whose adventures belong to a particular reality so real she even has an identity cardI had fun making Bianca a completely free character.

My universe is truly my own. People ran so hardcore away from Liefeld—but characters popping out of and through panels is something you SHOULD be doing in an action comic.

The fact is, Guido is a voyeur by nature. And then one last page from Hello Anita by Guido Crepax.

There is no reason to be overly tethered to them, beyond as an aesthetic choice. Conal Cochran added it Nov 12, The above page is from Bianca. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. William Osma marked it as to-read May 24, The page above is from Anita Live—which is in my opinion the best colored Crepax work. Print This probably speaks a lot to my adoration of the Bianca stories—because they are the primacy of the image and the sequence.
