It is a compelling tale of a young Southern woman from Louisiana who loses everything in the Civil War. Roberta’s parents arrive on the scene and a befuddled Cole must marry Roberta considering the evidence in plain sight. Anyone who’s seen Gone With the Wind, and who would be reading this book if they hadn’t, should’ve been able to easily imagine each scene with a little less than what we are given.

I feel as though now that I’ve read my first Woodiwiss novel I can officially label myself a fan of the bodice-ripper genre. The writing and settings were far superior than I’m used to from romance novelists. Woodiwiss was the youngest of eight siblings.
